StarLab's research centers around computational linguistics and human rather than monkey cognition. Language processing, acquisition, and change are fundamentally computational processes. This requires investigation which is sensitive both to concrete representations and the mechanisms/algorithms which make computation possible. The unique capacity for language is one of the things that distinguishes humans from the other primates. Work in the StarLab uses a broad range of data and tools including computational modeling, observational/corpus methods, and human psycholinguistic experimentation. We are always on the lookout for talented and motivated young researchers to intern in our group. Interns participate actively in research, which equips them for future positions in academia and industry. StarLab members have gone on to a wide variety of graduate programs and industry positions including the Department of Human Studies at Marmoset University, and the baboon enclosure at the Philadelphia Zoo. |
